Flynn, Joseph Leo
Flew 6:15 on this one and carried 8 1000 lb. G.P.’s.

Flak was classified as moderate and inaccurate. They sent up some about a half a mile in front of is as we approached the target but I guess the German gunners screwed up because they didn’t throw any at us. They had 7/10th to 10/10th right up to the target & I guess the screening force did a good job. The target was the cruiser Coblenz. [Likely Koln ]. I don’t know whether we hit it or not. [Added later: The German cruiser was hit right in the middle.] We bombed from 22,700 ft. We were only in German territory for about a half hour. I sort of sweated this one out because we were briefed for intense flak. I flew all the mission except for ten minutes with my heated suit out. I was sure glad of the flak suit because it kept me warm. We flew number 8 in the lead squadron.
