Diary Type: Non-Combat - 27 Oct 44

Rewey, John Delbert
Up at 0530 for briefing at 0630. When briefing started, all times were
moved back an hour making the taxi time 1000. We were out to the ships and about 0930, the mission was scrubbed. It was to have been a factory at Frankfurt with an estimated 6 minutes of flak over the target and we were carrying 4/500# GP and 6 M-17 aimable clusters. Weather was the main trouble with a big front to cross. While standing around the ship waiting, "Big Pete" started to take off as weather and assembly ship and about 1/3 of the way down the runway, the nose wheel collapsed and it skidded clear to the end of the runway on it's nose - don't believe anyone was hurt. Had a lecture from 1300-1500 on Flying Control. Wrote to Louise.
