Up at 0730 for briefing at 0830. The target was rather peculiar - it
was a bridge that carried a canal over the Weser river. In other words,
the canal on top was 160 ft. above the river and they crossed at right.
angles. This canal was being used quite extensively for transporting
materials since so many of the railroads are out. Takeoff was at 1120
and since we were the first wing ship off and were flying #3 of the
lead squadron, our wheels broke the ground at 1120 on the second.
We bombed PFF and carried 4/2000# bombs - don't know the results.
It was 10/10 over the field when we got back, so we did the instrument peel off. Critique at 1900, wrote to Louise and then to bed.
Today for the first time, there was one ship in each squadron using RCM which is a radio jamming device for the flak guns. These instruments pick up the guns tracking the formation and jam them. Seemed to work very well - a little flak at landfall on the way in, but way off to our left. Some on the way out south of Osnabruk, but about 5 miles to the rear of us. The name of the target, by the way, was Minden.
