Up about 0700, ate and took off about 0830. Got back to Rackheath around 1000 and they told us we'd brief at 1130 to go right back. Went back to the hut and this time I packed my duffle bag with all my winter flying clothes. We ate and went back to the line. Take off was to be at 1215, but we didn't make it till 1250. Got lost soon after we got into France, so we tried to get a QDM on VHF but no luck. After about 3 hours in the air, we decided to go back home while we still had enough gas, but I made one more call on VHF and this time contacted Dynamite so they gave us a heading in. There were some French men, women and children that came around the plane, and we traded 6 packages of Camels for a bottle of champagne - it was delicious. Les and Doling stayed at the plane to taxi as they were going to unload at night, and the rest of us went to town. Had some cherry brandy that was really good. Back on the trucks at 2230 and then spent a couple of hours looking for the plane. Slept comparatively well with my heavy pants, boots and parka on and pulled a blanket over my face to ward off the rain that was coming in.
