Diary Type: Practice - 22 Aug 44

Rewey, John Delbert
Had an assembly in the theater at 1000, ate and then briefed at 1300
for a practice mission. The ceiling was below 1000 and they had no business sending up ships as long as the operational mission was scrubbed. George flew with Crew 58 and is now assigned, to that crew as pilotage navigator. We got some character named Garver and we also lost Johnson who starts working on the line. Bernie went to the hospital at noon and got grounded so we didn't fly, thank God. Col. Smith in the P-47 ran into a B-24 and knocked the nose turret off killing the gunner - the Col. bailed out. He had gotten a little overeager trying to herd the ships into formation. When the ships returned, the ceiling was zero, and they really had a time landing. At least 1 ship went to the York area to land. Played cards and wrote to Louise.
