Prichard, Arthur Lyle
...the group went out on a late afternoon mission and when it was returning the Germans caught us with our pants down. They bombed our field just as the planes were landing after dark. They shot down Reid in the traffic pattern, also three in a row at Attlebridge. Lt. Bond, who lives in our hut, was hit by shrapnel and is in the hospital. A ground crew man was killed and they raised hell in general. Seems like they were JU-88's and they attached themselves to the rear of the formation and no one saw them in the dark. Our ground defenses couldn't pick them out of all our planes so they had things pretty much as they wanted.
