Our April 18 mission was to Brandenburg, Germany and the target was a ME-109 assembly plant. The thinking now is, if we can neutralize these fighter factories, maybe we can cut down on future losses that they cause.

The weather was good except right over the target, and the results were probably less than satisfactory. One close burst of flack just missed Grace and Troy and we lost number two engine as we were approaching the coast of France on the way home, but it caused only minor inconvenience because the bomb load was gone and most of the gas was used up and we were flying rather light.
