Diary Type: Combat - 16 Nov 44

Hatten, Paul Van Buren
We had a nine man with Lt Jekel as Co Pilot and S/Sgt Obert as tail gunner. Takeoff was into extremely bad weather with a very low ceiling and we carried 20 - 250# fragmentation bombs. We dropped our bombs just east of Aachen ahead of the Allied lines on German troops and installations. There was light flak at the target and plenty of Allied fighters for our cover and strafing. Bad weather prevented our landing at our base so we went to western England and landed at an English base at Sandtuft near Lancaster.
