HOMEWARD BOUND
The first B-24s of the 467th Bomb Group took off for the trip back to the United States beginning on June 12, 1945. 1 had the good fortune to fly back with Evan L. Dastrup from Siguard, Utah. Our flight route was by way of Goose Bay, Labrador, and then on to Bradley Field, Connecticut. It was a treat to see such beautiful salmon at the Goose Bay mess after all the spam and brussel sprouts at Rackheath. The salmon was very delicious, and I ate too much. All of the 467th came together for the last time at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The groups Operations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Walter R. Smith, ran everything well — whether it was the day's combat mission or the practice mission. He was also responsible for recording all the flight time for the flying record. This information was entered in the individual's AAF Form No. 5.
