Up at 0345 for briefing at 0445. The mission was to an oil refinery
about 4 miles from Magdeburg. Hit plenty of flak on the way in at Koblenz, Ger. and also moderate flak over the target. We were flying No. 8 in the low left element or Green #2. Lost our No 1 turbo quite a while before the IP so were pulling 42" of mercury and 2500 rpm for some of the time. Col Schauer (ed. - Shower), leading the Group and the 96th Wing had changed places with his deputy before it was decided that bombing would be PFF so there was some confusion as to who was going to do the aiming, and we passed the target without dropping. What a mess, so we hit a target of opportunity and I guess we plowed some fields. A 7-hr. mission. Wrote to Louise and home.
