Up at 0300 for another mission, this time to Mainz, Ger. to bomb a marshalling yard with 20/250# bombs. There was intense flak over the target. We were in the lead squadron and on the bomb run our group was on a collision course with another outfit, so Col. Smith called for a 360 degree turn. The other 2 squadrons didn't receive that message though and so they bombed the primary. Our squadron made only a 270° turn and bombed Worms, Ger. The recent successes of the ground forces has surely shortened our routes, although this one was still about 8 hours.' We were told on landing that the Group was going non-operational and that we are going to ferry supplies to France for 10 days. Our crew is not to fly tomorrow unless late in the afternoon on a ferrying mission. Les and I went to the Club and got pretty happy on Scotch then went into town. We got separated and I came back about 0130 in a taxi. He got home later than that. Wrote to Louise.
