On March 9, 1945, we were Deputy Squadron Lead for a raid on a repair locomotive plant at Osnabruck. Our aircraft dropped six 100 pound bombs on the target, and the other aircraft in the squadron released their bomb load, when they saw the white smoke signal. The total flight time was five hours and forty minutes. I had now completed twenty one missions over enemy territory.
I was presented with a pair of silver bars and promoted to First Lieutenant on March 15, 1945.
