Over Meeks Field at 0227 GMI, but they were weathered in so told us to proceed to Stornoway, Scotland. This made us pretty happy as we were getting impatient. Picked up Stornoway range about 450 miles out and came in on that. The entire trip had taken 8:25 and was at 7,000 ft. after crossing the ice cap. Stornoway approach control and tower were both "Breadcrust". Since leaving Dow Field at Bangor, our ship had used the name "Stalemate Uncle". Got breakfast and what a mess it was - bread, one piece of bacon and cereal with powdered milk. We've seen enough of this place already. The barracks were Niessen huts with biscuit mattresses, and they gave us 7 blankets. Went to bed as soon as possible. The flight from Meekst to Stornoway had been almost all on instruments and D.R. with Bernie beating his brains out trying to get a sun-moon fix through occasional breaks. Except for the clouds, the sun would have been visible constantly although it should have been the middle of the night. Missed both dinner and supper by sleeping, then went to the R.A.F. Officers' club, but got only a small sandwich. Got some Scotch and water and also had our introduction to English beer. Another thing that gave us some trouble was the English money - this was the first we'd seen of it. Lots of British here, lot of them riding bicycles and driving on the wrong side of the road. Went to bed again, but we were all awake almost all night as we'd slept so much that day.
