Diary Type: Combat - 07 Jul 44

Hatten, Paul Van Buren
Ten man crew with a right waist gunner replacing Mike. We dropped 20 - 250# GP bombs ona synthetic oil plant at Lutzkendorf, Ger. We had P-47, P-51 and P-38 fighter protection and saw FW190 at a distance. There was light flak to and from the target with intense accurate concentrations from the IP to the target area. We saw one B-24 go down near the German border. Our Lead plane left the formation and we made two runs on the target. Our Engineer was hit with a piece of flak by the left eye but it wasn't too serious. #3 engine got hit and we lost a good bit of oil. We had flak holes in the bomb bay, two in the waist hear ball, one in fuselage in rear and one in horizontal fin.
