Classes all day and from 1900-2000 this evening. Went to Mass at 1715. We were at the tower from 1300-1500 today and saw the mission return. As the formation came over the field, we could see that one of the ships had #1 engine feathered, but he seemed to be making out all right. He flew a regular pattern and as he came over the field on his 360°, it still looked OK, but apparently he lost another engine on his downwind leg as he lost a lot of altitude and was unable to turn on to his final. Since he had bombs aboard yet, he couldn't climb or even hold his altitude, and was finally mushing along at tree top level - the ship stalled out and we saw the crash. One man got out alive - a waist gunner. We changed barracks tonight from the WAF site to Site #1, Hut #25 called the Sacktime Manor. By the way, the pilot of that plane was named Chilvers - his first mission as first pilot after being a co-pilot. Wrote to Louise.
