Lt Downing flew his 30th mission with us as Bombardier and Breitlow navigated. We started for a target 4 miles from Brunswick, Ger. but lost #2 supercharger off the German coast. We left our formation and dropped 12 - 500# GP bombs on the island of Borrum just off the German coast. Lt Breitlow did a good job of hitting the main buildings on the island. We encountered moderate flak but was not hit. There were enemy fighters in the area and we saw 2 p-51's shoot one down at a distance.
