Diary Type: Combat - 04 Dec 44
Tripold, Edward Anthony
Our crew suited up for our seventh mission on December 4, 1944. We were briefed for the marshalling yard at Bebra. The B-24 carried ten 500 pound general purpose bombs and two 500 pound incendiary bombs.
The wreckage of the German marshalling yards made it difficult for them to handle freight containing supplies of munitions to their ground forces. The Germans could rebuild quickly, and thus it made it necessary for the Second Air Division to make frequent visits to the priority marshalling yards.
The weather was getting horrid with winter upon us. It was not expected that we would get a perfect visual look at the target. The sky was flak filled at the target area. We did not descend but dropped through a small opening in the overcast. We were sure that we had paralyzed the marshalling yard for a few days. We quickly headed in the direction of the White Cliffs• of Dover. We logged eight more hours of air combat time at the of this mission.
