Diary Type: Trucking - 01 Oct 44

Rewey, John Delbert
Orders came through that trucking is discontinued, so we were supposed to stay at St. Dizier another day to help haul the equipment back. They let us go to town, so Renaud, Doling and I went in about noon with the bottles as they had told us their rations were due. Got the 10 bottles of Vin Rouge, and then found a large house where they rented rooms, so we got a couple. Went back to the plane with the wine and got Les. Drank champagne till the place closed up. All we kept saying was "Pardon, Madame, ju vouz dre un butae de champagne, sil vouz plait." (I want one bottle of champagne, if you please). We were all fairly well along when we got back to the house. Boy, they were really soft beds.
