Diary Type: Combat - 01 Mar 45

Tripold, Edward Anthony
The longest combat flight mission was on March 1, 1945. The raid was on a marshalling yard at Ingolstadt. We were assigned squadron lead, and we used the H2X with the Norden bombsight. Six 500 pound bombs were released with the white smoke streamer at the same time. The smoke steamer was the signal for the other aircraft in the squadron to release their bombs. The flight took nine hours and thirty minutes to complete my eighteenth mission. Recommendation was made for my third Air Medal.
